A Healthy Community Vision

The concepts of a healthy community have been immortalized in an oil painting commissioned by The Partnership for a Healthier Carroll County.

The brainstorming session of the vision of a healthy community started at The Partnership’s 2016 We’re On Our Way (WOOW) community forum, when more than 120 community members and leaders shared ideas.

Comments like “clean air,” “good health care” and “accessible parks” sparked the creative process, and additional input was given throughout Carroll County as part of The Partnership’s Healthy Community Vision chalkboard project.

Sykesville artist V.J. Thurston painted the 30 x 48” artwork portraying the commonly identified community values of our county’s residents. Sharing, promoting and celebrating these values will result in better plans, better programs and better health and well-being for the residents of Carroll County.

“This beautiful art is more than a painting. It’s a reflection and documentation of our community members’ desires for a healthy future,” says Dorothy Fox, The Partnership’s executive director and CEO. “It will be valued for years to come as it recognizes the vision and timestamps our commitment to an improved quality of life.”

First unveiled in May at the 2017 WOOW community forum, the painting will be on display at branches of the Carroll County Public Library, area nonprofits and businesses throughout the county, before being permanently housed at Carroll Hospital.
