NEW Nutrition in Media Program Launches May 22

Separate nutrition fact from fiction with the new Nutrition in Media program hosted by the Tevis Center for Wellness

In this quarterly program, community nutrition educator Dana Mealing, RDN, LDN, will debunk some of the most prevalent nutrition misinformation. “The goal is to educate participants on identifying credible nutrition information, understanding scientific research, and seeing through the sensationalism and marketing of diet trends,” she says.

The first session will cover detox diets and cleanses, with future sessions potentially covering topics such as ketogenic diets, intermittent fasting, apple cider vinegar and green tea.

Upon registration for the free program, participants will receive an email with sample social media posts on the upcoming topic. During the session, more in-depth examples will be shared, followed by discussion and a deep dive into related articles and research to uncover the scientific truth behind the trends, says Mealing.

“My goal is for people to feel—as they scroll through their feeds and are bombarded with ads for some magic solution—that they have a confident understanding of their health and nutrition needs,” she says. “And, when they ask themselves, ‘will this really make me feel better?’ they will have safe, evidence-based resources to go to for answers.”

The first session takes place Wednesday, May 22, from 5 to 6 p.m., in a hybrid format—online and at the Tevis Center for Wellness. To register for the free program, click here or call 410-871-7000.
