Are you scheduled to have surgery in the near future? You can prepare for your upcoming surgery in several ways.
One of the most important things you can do is NOT eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your procedure, unless your physician advises otherwise. This includes water, gum and candy. Eating or drinking after this time may cause you to vomit during your procedure, which can cause complications. Not complying with these instructions can cause your surgery to be postponed or cancelled. In addition, we advise you not to smoke or drink alcohol 24 hours before your surgery.
Please let your physician know about all of the medications you are taking, including prescribed and over-the-counter medications and herbal remedies.
When packing for the hospital, please do NOT pack or bring money or valuables; jewelry, including body piercings and wedding rings; hairpieces; and mascara or other makeup.
However, there are a few items we do encourage you to bring. Please make a list of the medications you are taking, along with how much you take and how often you take it. If you wear contact lenses, don’t forget your lens container, contact lens solution and your glasses. If you use hearing aids, please be sure to wear them as well. Lastly, please be sure to bring your insurance card and a picture identification.
