Garrett Hoover: COVID-19, One Year Later

It’s hard to believe that it’s almost been a year since COVID-19 came into our lives. To say that it has changed the world would be an understatement.  These past 12 months have been a roller coaster ride; we’ve faced highs and lows and unknowns. It has profoundly changed the way we work, learn and live.

But we also have shown our extraordinary ability to innovate, care and thrive in these history-making circumstances.

And I can’t say it enough: I have a deep appreciation and gratitude for our team.

From our medical and nursing staff who have made countless sacrifices, to our environmental services staff who continue to make sure our hospital is pristine, to our food services workers who ensure our patients and staff are fed, to our supply chain staff who have made sure that we have adequate amounts of supplies—and I could go on and on—thank you for caring for our community so bravely.

And our community has been amazing. Thank you for your continued support of our healthcare team. Your words of encouragement, financial support and other kind gestures make all the difference to our team, and we appreciate it very much.

We’re hopeful that having two vaccines in distribution and a third on the horizon is the beginning to curbing this pandemic. I know there have been many frustrations across the country as the vaccine supplies do not match the demand. I ask for your continued patience as our healthcare community diligently works to get as many individuals in the community vaccinated as possible.

COVID or non-COVID, the team at Carroll Hospital continues to provide care to our community. And we are beginning to ease some of our visitation restrictions. Please continue to do your part and social distance, wear masks and wash your hands frequently. We’re all experiencing COVID fatigue in one way or another, but staying vigilant will help our neighbors, our community and, ultimately, our country.

Garrett Hoover is the president and chief operating officer of Carroll Hospital.
