Inside Carroll Hospital: New Pre-Operative Patient Education Program

Carroll Hospital has launched a new Pre-Operative Patient Education program to educate patients on how best to prepare for an upcoming surgery.

The program takes place the first and third Monday of each month, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Shauck Auditorium.

Launched in September, the class is presented by a nurse and anesthesiologist who address a variety of topics to allow patients to be fully informed and involved in their care.

During the program, surgical patients learn what they need to do to prepare before their surgery, what to expect when they come to the hospital for surgery and how to care for themselves after surgery to promote healing and optimal health.

“Patients learn about everything from preparing for a phone call from our pre-admission testing department and preparing their home environment to make their recovery faster and more comfortable to the importance of having a designated support person for after surgery,” said Linda Grogan, executive director of women’s, children’s and surgical services.

The idea for the class came about because of the hospital’s success with a similar program focused on patients undergoing joint replacement surgery.

All patients who are scheduled for a procedure are encouraged to attend the program.

No registration is required.
